Life-changing research

Mr David Wright was diagnosed with recurrent rectal cancer. Due to his complicated case, Mr Wright was referred to the specialist colorectal surgeons at RPAH, where he would undergo pelvic exenteration surgery (major operation to treat cancer in the pelvis).

As part of his surgical admission, Mr Wright took the opportunity to get involved in the pelvic exenteration research program, which he continues to participate in. Following his recovery, Mr Wright has resumed writing short stories, using them as another avenue to share his experiences to help others.

“Any cancer journey is a test of the human spirit. Being able to share my experiences through the SOuRCe research and my stories gives me a huge lift. Cancer sufferers need to know they are not alone and this research is one way of improving treatment and communication.” David Wright, research participant.
